We Get A Lot of Hate Mail

Author: Robert Fountila, M.D., D.O.

Every day we get negative mail. It comes in all forms. From text messages to profanity-laced voicemails and everything in between, we are never surprised at the sheer volume of negativity.

Does this persuade us to stop? No. Does this make us question what we’re doing? No. Does it cause us to doubt our mission to make an MD accessible to qualified candidates? Absolutely not.

The funny thing is that most people who react negatively don’t know the first thing about what we do, why we do it, and how it all comes together.

Most of the complaints come from professionals who already have their MD or are paying through the nose to get it via traditional channels. A hundred percent of these people don’t understand what we’re doing and yet they scold us.

Consider the phenomenon these same naysayers willingly participate in every day using the same basic principles we do. Consider that without overseas manufacturing we would not have Walmart, Amazon, or any of the other retailers that occupy our malls, street corners, or browser windows.

These accepted mainstream stores are able to exist because they offer one thing. Here’s a hint, we’re not talking about cheap toasters or Levi jeans for fifteen bucks either. We’re talking about value.

Retail stores that live in the physical or digital world deliver value to a market of buyers who simply want what these companies are selling. By utilizing the global supply chain these brands build a bridge between overseas manufacturing, individual brands, and finally inject into huge groups of curated products that form the shape of modern retail.

Now an even bigger trend is emerging as online players like Temu and Shein are killing off individual brands and replacing them with direct relationships between factories and the ultimate buyers of their products. Now a factory in China that makes toasters can sell them directly to a household and entirely eliminate the local brand and retail stores all altogether.

What happens when this happens? Value is created and when we say value we mean ridiculous amounts of value only measurable using math with lots of zeros. When you consider that Amazon typically charges 40% of gross sales for the right to participate in their ecosystem and that individual brands need to make at least 50% margin you have a ridiculous equation that’s hard to ignore.

Now you can buy that Braun or whatever brand of toaster directly from the factory that makes it on behalf of Braun for 80% to 90% off typical retail pricing. If you want to know why you can’t pick up a Wall Street Journal without reading about Shein or Temu it’s because of math like this.

You just can’t ignore it.

We deliver the same value to DOs who want to upgrade their credentials to MD by offering an equivalent degree for much less of everything. Much less money. Much less hassle. Much less time. Much less nonsense.
